It may be hard to believe with today's weather conditions, but spring break is coming up soon, and that means a holiday for many families. We know that it is easy to get caught up in the excitement of a new adventure and forget to take precautions to stay safe. Here are three important things may help you enjoy a safe spring break. Don't Overshare
It's very tempting to overload your social media accounts with details, photos and all the steps in trip planning. If your home is going to be empty during your absence, the last thing you want to do is draw too much attention to it. Letting the world know the exact dates and times of your departure can be a little too helpful for anyone with crime on their mind.
This also applies during your trip as well. Of course, you're going to want to share pics of all your fun, but take care that you don't provide too much detail while away from home. Talking about plans with times, room numbers or other specifics should be avoided. Tourists with children can be targets, and you don't want to give someone a road map to finding exactly where and when you'll be doing things. Drive Safely
Of course, you're going to want to take care while driving at all times, but during a spring break road trip, it's easier to slip up. You're on unfamiliar roads, your family is more excited and rambunctious than usual, and you're possibly fighting more traffic than you're used to because tourist attractions are super busy this time of year. Plan out your route before you go, leave plenty of time to get there, and stay off your phone while behind the wheel.
If you don't already have good AAA or other road-side assistance coverage, you should consider it. It can be extremely helpful to have a number to call when you're away from home and don't have any local contacts for a tow. Keep some basic tools or supplies on hand too, even if space is tight with your holiday luggage. Do Your Research
There are opinions and reviews for everything online these days, from attractions and hotels to restaurants and shops. Take a close look at your planned destination and see what people are saying. Have hotels gotten negative comments due to theft, security or other types of unsafe conditions?
This particular tip isn't solely about safety though. Use the information at your disposal to make the best choices for your trip. Look for good prices, great conditions and excellent customer service when you decide where to go.
These are just 3 important ways to stay safe during your spring break holiday. You should also keep a close eye on your belongings, have a plan for when you get separated, and don't get too friendly with strangers. Enjoy your vacation!
