Almost any insurance policy, in the US, will state that the claim must be reported in a “prompt” manner.
Insurance companies are concerned about not being “prejudiced” in their ability to investigate and defend the insured. That is why you will not find a specified number of days mentioned in which a claim must be filed following the date of a covered incident.
In generally, it is good advice that you, as the insured, report a covered accident as soon as reasonably possible following the event.
It is also wise to check with your insurance agent or company for their advice on the subject. In addition to getting specifics regarding when to file, they may offer you options for reporting a claim that make the process more convenient.
